Ten Steps To Building Yourself Image
Have you ever stood in front of a mirror and wondered who is starring back at you? If you have not tried this you should. You can tell a lot about yourself. Look at how you’re dressed, look at your facial features, hair mouth, eyes, how you stand. Looking at yourself in the mirror can tell you a lot about how others may see you. Your self image is very important in life especially if you want to make positive impressions with the people you meet, work with, and date and so on. Take a picture of that image, use it to remind you who you are.
Imagine being a celebrity. They pay people to give them the right image to any event they go to because their self image and how we see them is very important to them. However, I am not saying that you should go and hire a team of celebrity stylists, trainers and coaches to make sure you are always perfect.
What I am saying is you should pay attention to your own image. Be conscious of how you act in certain situations. Master your own self image to improve you life for the good. You are the master of your own life and you are only going to get out of it what you put into it. You could go through life being negative and not carrying what others think of you. But is it doing you more harm than good? Are you alienating people or making people feel uneasy around you because you are unsure of yourself?
I have recently re assessed my self image and I have to be honest it has changed a lot since the last time I checked. I have not followed my simple steps to keep it in check. That could be because I have be in and out of hospital, I have a lot on in my day job or because I have simply lost touch with myself. I suspect it is probably the later. Now I have realised I am out of touch I have started paying a lot more attention to myself because I feel it is important to be the best I can be . Below are ten steps I am using to build myself image:
1 – Do not make excuses for not achieving your goals . This is a big one for me. I have made a lot of excuses over the last few months as to why I have not achieved what I set out to achieve. There should be no excuses. I mean what possible excuse is there for not reaching my goals. They are my goals; if I have not achieved them then I have just been lazy. No excuses anymore!!
2 – Have pride in your self. This has been lacking from my life for a while. I have been in a stage of no really caring about myself. I do not know why. I guess because I have not strived to achieve my goals I have had not had to take any pride in anything. It is important to have pride in yourself because it is clearly visible to other people in your appearance, in your work and in the way you conduct yourself. Do not be lazy, have some pride in yourself.
3- Take care in your appearance. This follows on from my last point. If you have no pride in yourself then your appearance suffers. Having the right appearance is paramount to achieving what you want in life, if you have a good image things seem to be easier because people are more accepting of you. Ultimately if you do not take care of your appearance then nobody else will.
4- Check what you feed your brain. I am not talking about food here, I am talking about information. You need to filter and/or block the information you allow your brain to process. You should make it a priority to eliminate any negative information from your mind. Negativity can destroy lives if allowed to can unchecked. By allowing negative information from other people to filter into your mind you are instantly limiting your true potential. You do not need it, so filter it into your trash can!
5 – Believe you can. Now this is simple, if you believe you can do something then you can do it. Believing in your self is a huge part of developing a strong positive image. If you doubt yourself in whatever you are doing it is noticeable to others.
6 – Make positive statements . Write yourself a list of positive statements relative to your life situation. Write them in a small note book, in your diary on the back of your hand! Just keep them with you all of the time and read them everyday. Read them every time you feel a little down. They will make you feel good about yourself and remind you that you are a great person.
7 – Do not fear mistakes. There is nothing worse than the fear of making a mistake. Well there probably is but for the moment we will assume not. You fear making a mistake because it usually means punishment, lack of respect from piers and a whole host of other reasons. What is worse, the fear of making a mistake or actually making the mistake? I am sure most would agree that the fear of making a mistake is worse than what the actual mistake is. Do not fear it, if you make a mistake, admit you made a mistake and learn from it then carry on. We are all human, everyone makes mistakes.
8 – Do some charity work. This is something I am looking to do in the future. Helping others has the amazing effect of making you feel good about yourself. Now do not misunderstand what I am saying. I am not saying just do some charity work for that reason alone. You must have some passion, reason, motive or desire to want to go and do it. If you have no reason for doing the charity work you will not be helping anybody.
9 – Check your environment. Mix with like minded people. If you tend to let yourself mix with negative people your overall outlook on life and how you see yourself will eventually become more negative. Find positive people to mix with, this will help you stay positive and will ultimately help you achieve your goals and build a positive self image.
10 – Compile a success record. There is nothing more satisfying than looking over you past achievements. It helps remind you what you have done. It helps your mind remember the positive things you have done. Make a scrapbook and include photos and writings of what you consider to milestones or achievements in your life.
So there you have it, ten steps to building or improving your own self image. I will be using these ten steps everyday to help regain the person I want to be. I am sure most people could use the same approach to help master their own self image. Thanks for reading!
