There are two ways in which you can generate traffic for your site. You can buy traffic from various websites that pre qualify visitors for you so you can be sure you are getting targeted visitors. And you can spend time learning how to generate free traffic through various proven techniques.
Although these techniques are time consuming they can generate you lots of traffic and if you are just starting out in internet marketing or you have a tight budget they are the best way to go.

Firstly you need to be sure you have optimised your site correctly for search engine purposes. Secondly you need to be sure you have monetised your site correctly with adverts so you have a means to make some money from your sites visitors. Once you have produced enough free traffic and you have an income from your site you can then consider buying some traffic if you feel it is necessary.

Before I give you the 10 easy steps to free traffic, be sure you submit your site to as many search engines as possible as this will help get your site seen for free. Go to Google, Yahoo MSN and any other search engine you use or rate and submit your site manually so they are aware that it exists.

Ten tips to free traffic:

1. Writing articles or what is known as “Bum Marketing” is a fantastic way to generate traffic to your site. This simple technique can take a while but writing an article which is optimised to your sites keywords can be very effective. Select a keyword from your site, write an article based around it and put a link in the bio box on the article directory you submit it. 2. Search for blogs that are related to your sites topic. Begin leaving constructive comments on those blogs (DO NOT SPAM) and leave a backlink to your site. If you leave honest, interesting and constructive comments people will follow your backlink to see what else you have to say. In addition to this you can also become a member of topic related forums. Become an active member of their community build a rapport and be helpful. Also leave a backlink in your signature. But again, be sure NOT TO SPAM as you will be banned!

3. Press releases are an effective way to boost traffic. You can write a press release for your site and what it has to offer. Once written you can submit it to press release websites. You have to have some knowledge of how to write an effective press release correctly so be sure to do some research first.

4. If you have purchased a product, e-book or are part of an affiliate scheme you are doing well with you can right a review of it. Make sure you are not biased and give your honest opinion on the service offered. You could use it as a testimonial and trade it as a back link to the site.

5. If you have a website you can start a blog and link it to your site. Blogs are a great way of generating traffic as people can leave comments about your posts and they get indexed quicker than normal websites. Wordpress is probably the most popular choice for blogging software. Keep your blog updated and be sure to submit your blog to as many free blog directories as possible.

6. Free classified Ad sites are a great place to post links to your sites. All you need to do is register and create some small text Ad’s that include a backlink to your site. Make sure your ad is well written in order to attract as many people as possible and ensure you tailor your ad to the correct posting category.

7. Everybody has an email address. But not everybody puts a link to their website in their signature. Be sure to include a link in your email signature, if you use the address regularly then you can be sure you will get people clicking on it.

8. Social media sites have massive potential to drive traffic to your sites. Be sure to get pages set up on Myspace, Facebook, Squidoo and any other large social network. But more importantly make sure you link back to your site in your profiles.

9. Video marketing is becoming the newest way to drive traffic to sites. Creating a basic video which highlights the benefits of your site can be a great way to drive traffic. You can post the video on you tube and promote the video on your social network sites. It does not have to be fantastic, even a power point presentation with music will drive traffic.

10. Another fantastic way to get traffic to your site is to write an e-book. It does not have to be a masterpiece. Write a 20 page report that contains some valuable information that will benefit people and distribute it as many ways possible. You can submit it to free e-book submission sites, post it on your site, email all your friends and tell them about it, mention it on all the social networks you use. Give people free distribution rights and they will also pass it around for you. Before long you should see great traffic results.

Generating free traffic using these methods can take time so do not be disappointed if you do not get results straight away but you can be sure that will be building valuable targeted traffic that will support your website for a long time if you continue and persevere on a daily basis.
